Trevor Scott Howell currently toils away as a digital producer for the Calgary Herald where he previously covered city hall and education as a beat reporter.
He was part of the Herald team that won a National Newspaper Award and an Online News Association award (both in the breaking news category) for its extensive coverage of the devastating 2013 flood that swept through Calgary and southern Alberta. He first broke the story of RCMP seizing firearms from abandoned High River homes during the mandatory evacuation — a story that prompted a reaction from then prime minister Stephen Harper and an inquiry by the RCMP Public Complaints Commission that ulimately concluded Mounties had breached the Criminal Code.
He previously worked as city editor for OpenFile Calgary (now-defunct), as staff writer and web editor for Calgary’s alt-newspaper Fast Forward Weekly (sadly, also gone), as well as the former editor of Business Edge News Magazine.
His work has also been published in the National Post, Postmedia chain, Canada.com, SEE Magazine, Straight Goods, Swerve Magazine, Alberta Venture and DailyXY.com.
